Do you really think it is so difficult?
Magic in Feria.
Fairies do not cast spells, they are spells. Magic runs in their veins, nourishing them with its miracles and mysteries. Many creatures in Feria can fly, spit fire, transform themselves or enchant with their singing: they can do all this without effort. What is magic, arcane or impossible to us, is simple, easy, normal for them. For someone living in Feria, Magic is like Physics: it’s there and it rules the world. The people living in Feria don’t even call it Magic, for them “Real Magic” is something else. In fact, there is a discipline which attains not only from Dreams, but also from other types of force. From Nature or from Fate, from Human Hearts and so on. The Fairies learnt the secrets of this art with the invention of writing: their power evokes “powerful names”, recalling ancestral forces at their will. It is said that some Great Wizard could even provoke the fury of the Gods or the Scourges of the Earth by using the most terrible words; unluckily, no documents are available to prove it. The study of this art has never become outdated: every master has a maximum of three pupils from each generation, who must overcome several trials to prove their talent, temper and willingness, not to mention that parents are obliged to show adequate family credentials and pay extremely expensive fees for their children’s education. Nevertheless, every Family was quite keen about their offspring learning this discipline. Just like every Patriarch hopes his first-born could become a worthy successor to his title, so does he have the desire that one of his other children could undertake the Path of True Magic. To the human eye, it is pretty difficult to understand what these Paths are. A greedy Master could reply: “It’s a track full of choices, dangers and glory! It’s the trip to discover the Force of past times! It’s the Path to True Power!”… these are only words; an older Master, bashful and careful, would reply: “It’s a way to look at things. It’s a rule to make them work. It’s the key to change them”… In a few words, that’s how it is. There actually are several Paths: the Path through the Forest, the Path through the Fire, the Path of Forgers and the Path of Singing. There is a Path of Swords, a Path to the Heavens and, last but not least, the Path of Blood. For each Path, the pupil has to create a signet or a circle, which will appear by his side every time a spell is cast.
